Location: Civic Center Park & City Hall- Denver, Colorado attended by over 450,000 people

Client: Colorado Avalanche & Ascent Entertainment

Client Objectives: Host a spectacular celebration party on June 12, 1996 for the city of Denver in honor of its first national sports championship – the Colorado Avalanche hockey team winning the Stanley Cup!

Skyline’s Production

  • Produced a major, never-been-done-before event with seven days notice.
  • Supervised construction of the stage for the team and dignitaries.
  • Using our worldwide network of resources located the only two jumbo video screens available on short notice and have them routed to Denver.
  • Surrounded the championship team with a site-specific fireworks display designed in collaboration with five top designers from Zambelli Intemationale, a feat never before done at City Hall.
  • Avalanche superstar, Captain Joe Sakic emerged in a cloud of theatrical smoke carrying the Stanley Cup aloft through City Hall's Great Doors to the music of Aaron Copeland's “Fanfare For The Common Man” heard through an enormous sound system.
  • As Sakic walked to the front of the steps, a 30-foot fireworks waterfall cascaded behind him. (The crowd went wild!)

Results

  • NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman called the celebration "Phenomenal!"
  • Skyline's design has since become the standard by which subsequent celebrations have sought to emulate.
