Crafting Cost Effective Events

In a constricted economy, companies that want to reach out to loyal clients and individuals that have cause to celebrate can do so cost-effectively! Following are five suggestions from Skyline for producing a successful event when budgets have been cut:

1. Combine it!

The cost per person typically goes down for larger groups. Event planning, catering, rentals, entertainment and technical production can be more affordable when two or more groups combine their events. For businesses, is there another company you frequently partner with when completing projects? A good example would be a real estate firm and a mortgage company.

2. Sign a multiple event contract.

If your approved budget calls for two or more events in the same fiscal year, contract suppliers for both events at once and ask for a discount. Or ask for a discount for a multiple year contract. For private events, you can do the same thing, such as contracting the same suppliers to produce your daughter's Sweet Sixteen party and your husband's 50th birthday party!

3. Simplify!

Often our clients begin the event design process wanting all the latest and greatest trends included. Choose fewer activities but do each one really well instead.

4. Choose a casual theme.

Americans, especially Westerners enjoy casual events. At a less formal affair, all event elements can be more casual from the invitation to the food and beyond.  Casual choices such as comfort food can still be classy and fun. Why not serve those mashed potatoes in a martini glass?

5. Ask Entertainers to perform more than one function.

Many artists on Skyline's roster will perform at a wedding ceremony in addition to the reception, as an example. For our business clients, Skyline typically hires a cast of characters and asks each performer to provide two to three different costumes and personas. It adds to the fun, feels like a "bigger" event and saves costs.

Skyline Recommends...

Loni Gibbs, Feng Shui Practitioner

Those of you who have visited Skyline's offices often favorably comment on it's design and layout. Part of the design team that created our space was Loni Gibbs, a Feng Shui (pronounced Fung SHWAY) practitioner. There are many kinds of Feng Shui, and I'll leave defining the discipline to the experts. The reason Skyline hired Loni was to work with the energy of our space: I wanted our offices to be colorful and affirming to all who enter! Loni did a fabulous job, and we recommend her highly!
